This course will focus on teaching three essential components of emergency preparedness: situational awareness, crisis communications, and active threat response. This series will offer participants practical advice on attending to risks before they evolve into threats, how to communicate clearly and effectively during crisis events, and how to respond during an active threat scenario. These two 90-minute sessions will prepare teachers, staff, and administrators to better manage crisis events that occur at work and at home.

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will learn the importance of early awareness of potentially high-risk scenarios and how to engage in protective actions to prevent harm.

  • Participants will review core principles of communication during crisis events and how to remain calm, cool, and collected when sharing information during a critical event.

  • Participants will understand how to respond during an active threat event by engaging in the Run, Hide, Fight approach.

  • Participants will have opportunities to review information that will be useful to share some of this training forward with those they work with.
